Dr. Joseph Fiksel is Executive Director of the Center for Resilience at The Ohio State University, and Principal and Co-Founder of the consulting firm Eco-Nomics LLC. He is a recognized authority on sustainable business practices, with over 25 years of research and consulting experience for multi-national companies, government agencies and consortia such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. A native of Montreal, Joseph began his career at DuPont of Canada, and subsequently was Director of Decision and Risk Management at Arthur D. Little, Inc. and Vice President for Life Cycle Management at Battelle. He has published over 70 refereed articles and several books, and is a frequent invited speaker at professional conferences. Joseph holds a B.Sc. from M.I.T., a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University, and an advanced degree from La Sorbonne. His latest book, Design for Environment: A Guide to Sustainable Product Development, was published by McGraw-Hill in 2009.

Andrew Mangan is co-founder and executive director of the United States Business Council for Sustainable Development, the leading national organization in creating cross-industry and public-private relationships to solve environmental and social challenges while improving its members’ bottom line. The US BCSD is a partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, a global network of 200 international companies with members drawn from 30 countries and 20 major industrial sectors. Under Andy’s leadership, the US BCSD established the concept of by-product synergy (BPS) and developed a systematic process for establishing regional BPS networks. Andy has been instrumental in developing BPS networks in many parts of the U.S., as well as in the United Kingdom and China. He received his Master of Science from Columbia University, where he was a Fellow in the School of International Affairs.

 

Jerry Tinainow Ohio By-Product Synergy NetworkProject Advisor


Jerry Tinianow is the Director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. He has devoted his adult life to environmental conservation. He was engaged in the private practice of law as a commercial trial attorney with two of Ohio’s largest law firms for over 20 years. During that period he held a number of volunteer leadership positions at all levels of the conservation movement, including as a national vice president of the Sierra Club, which recognized him as a national “Environmental Hero” during the Club’s centennial. After leaving the practice of law in 2002, Jerry served as a vice president and Ohio Executive Director of the National Audubon Society. He directed all Audubon programs in Ohio, including bird conservation, citizen science, issue advocacy, chapter support and education. He was the developer of the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, an award-winning nature education center just a mile south of downtown Columbus. Jerry received his undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington University.

 

Mike Long Ohio By-Product Synergy Network

Mike Long is the President of Resource 100, a consulting firm with a focus on waste reduction, recycling and the conversion of waste to products, fuels and energy. He was the founding Executive Director of the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) and served in that position for 18 years until he retired in 2007. He has a total of 40 years of public service, including 16 years as an engineer and manager in the Ohio Department of Transportation and 6 years as the Director of Public Utilities and Aviation for the City of Columbus. Mike is a graduate of Ohio University with a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and has done graduate work at Ohio University and The Ohio State University. He serves on the State of Ohio Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council and the Board of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). He received SWANA’s National Leadership Award in 2003 and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s Regional Leadership Award in 2007.

 

Megan Moses Ohio By-product Synergy NetworkNetwork Director


Megan Moses is the Network Director for the Ohio BPS Network. Megan has worked in leadership, management, research, outreach and communications capacities including experience with academic institutions, non-profits and industry. She is currently an advisor for Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s Green Team in Columbus, Ohio, and Chair of the Growth and Development Committee. Previously she was the Manager of Environmental Stewardship, Government Affairs, and Community Relations at The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, Program and Outreach Director for the Environmental Molecular Science Institute at The Ohio State University and Manager, and Lecturer and Researcher for the Center for Sustainable Systems Studies at Miami University in Ohio. Megan holds a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Management and Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a Minor in Medical Sociology from Miami University, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Franklin University.

 

Kieran Sikdar Ohio By-Product Synergy NetworkDirector of Analytics


Kieran Sikdar is a Program Advisor with the United States Business Council for Sustainable Development (US BCSD). Kieran manages the collaboration between US BCSD and the Center for Resilience at The Ohio State University, which provides cutting edge tools to optimize the economic and ecological benefits of large-scale material reuse or By-product Synergy networks at the regional and national level. Kieran has experience working with companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to develop analysis and decision-making tools that integrate economic and environmental considerations.  He holds Masters’ degrees in Civil Engineering and Operations Research and a Bachelor’s degree with Honors and Distinction in Integrated Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University.
